As a 25-year military vet and a man in his mid-50’s, Scott knows what pain management looks like in the traditional sense.
While he was In the military Scott prided himself on being drug-free. On his last tour in Iraq, he sustained non-combat injuries and was sent down the path of habit-forming pain-relieving opioids. This was in direct opposition to his mission of staying drug-free in the military.
He retired from the military and was still using habit-forming pharmaceuticals - he was not really comfortable doing this.
“I felt like I was becoming a “wanting” person. And that really bothered me.”
Scott felt like he didn’t know who he really was, or even what his level of pain really was anymore because he was masking what he was feeling with the prescription opioid pain medication.
“I am all about the truth. I didn’t know what my truth was anymore - I didn’t know what further injury I was causing and what my pain level was. And I didn’t like that.”
As an engineer, Scott came up with a plan for rehabilitation.
“My plan included an inversion table where I can stretch out my back and decompress my discs. It included sleep - unfortunately I was on Ambien - and that was not a comfortable place for me either because of the chemical fog the next day. My plan also included chiropractic, and now I’ve sprinkled in a little CBD, and that really changed my world. So thank God for that - I’m now completely drug-free. I’m completely off of ‘medicine’ - only using melatonin every now and again.”
